According to Kyodo News Agency, Japan’s Atomic Energy Regulatory Commission came to a conclusion regarding the accident investigation of the Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, based on the field investigation conducted in September and October and related video analysis studies. It is believed that 2 explosions occurred in the reactor building of Unit 3 instantly.
The investigation pointed out that not only the explosion of hydrogen, but also the explosion of other combustible gases.
These will be included in the accident investigation report compiled in March 2021.
As the accident happened almost 10 years ago, work to find out the actual situation of the explosion has progressed.

The fire and black smoke on the south side of the plant were captured by a camera set by Fukushima CCTV about 17 kilometers southwest of Yihe Nuclear Power Plant.
The Regulatory Commission improved the resolution of the video and analyzed how the explosion occurred.
First, the hydrogen accumulated in the upper part of the reactor building caught fire and exploded.
The roof beams and walls were severely damaged, and flames emerged from the cracks in the roof.
After that, in addition to the remaining hydrogen gas, it is considered to be a gas produced by melting and organic matter such as cable insulation pipes. It also mixed with oxygen and ignited and exploded, causing huge black smoke to gush out into the sky.
The investigation found that the scale of the explosion was slightly smaller than the hydrogen explosion of Unit 1.
The Regulatory Commission believes that it is possible that the first stage of the hydrogen explosion occurred on the 4th floor of the reactor building, and the second stage of the explosion occurred on the 5th floor of the top floor.
The Regulatory Commission intends to continue the investigation of the actual situation of the accident after completing the report.
