Hanover (dpa) - Can the Marktkirche in Hanover install a stained glass window given by former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder?

The 18th Civil Chamber of the Hanover Regional Court will decide on this today.

The legacy of the architect Dieter Oesterlen, who was responsible for the reconstruction of the Marktkirche after the Second World War, is resisting the installation of the work designed by the artist Markus Lüpertz.

He sees the copyright of his stepfather, who died in 1994, violated and takes legal action against the market parish.

This invokes the church's right to self-determination and freedom of religion.

The window designed by Lüpertz is 13 meters high and narrow.

Among other things, it shows a barefoot figure in a white robe - presumably the reformer Martin Luther - and five black flies.

During an on-site visit, the judges personally got an impression of the artistic design of the church.

The chamber did not indicate in which direction the verdict could go during the hearing almost six weeks ago.
