Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - The Hessian Corona Cabinet will today determine the new and significantly tightened measures for the population in the country to protect against infection with the virus.

The aim of the meeting in Wiesbaden is to fix the measures decided in the federal-state switchboard with an ordinance for Hesse.

Prime Minister Volker Bouffier (CDU) will then present and explain the planned health protection restrictions for the Hessian population in detail.

The measures should apply from Wednesday (December 16).

Due to the persistently high number of corona infections, the federal and state governments agreed on Sunday that shops that do not offer everyday necessities must close by January 10th. The attendance requirement for children and young people at the Hessian schools will also be lifted from Wednesday until the end of the week. The sale of fireworks on New Year's Eve is to be banned.
