Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Despite frost, drought and hail, the fruit harvest in the southwest was better than expected.

According to initial estimates, around 465,000 tons of apples, pears, cherries, mirabelle plums and plums were harvested this year, as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday in Stuttgart.

Apples made up the largest share with 403,200 tons.

That is one percent more than in the previous year.

At 20,800 tons, the plum harvest was also better than in 2019 - the farmers were able to record an increase of 17 percent.

However, pears, mirabelle plums and sweet and sour cherries have suffered losses.
