A fire broke out on Monday night in a supermarket in the Hamburg district of Veddel.
Shortly before midnight, the fire brigade was first reported to have a burning shopping cart with rubbish - on site it turned out that a shopping cart overhang from a Penny supermarket was on fire and the flames spread to the entrance area of the building, the fire brigade announced on Monday morning.

Initially, the fire threatened to spread to a neighboring hotel - but neither the fire nor smoke had spread there. Nobody was hurt. The extinguishing work was finished after about two hours, "it went very quickly," said a spokesman for the fire department. The police were initially unable to provide any information on the amount of damage or the cause of the fire.
