Big shock for the Hamburg TV presenter Oliver Geissen: Late on Sunday evening, his thatched holiday home in Hillgroven (Dithmarschen district) caught fire and burned out completely.

As the fire brigade announced on Monday morning, the fire was reported by a local resident around 8:30 p.m.

Nobody was in the holiday home at the time.

Nobody was injured during the operation either.

Oliver Geissen's management confirmed on Monday that the moderator and his family were not in the house at the time of the fire.

The hamburger has now canceled all of his appointments for this week.

Hillgroven is located about 25 kilometers southeast of the popular holiday resort Sankt Peter-Ording.

Off-road vehicle just saved

In the course of the extinguishing work, an excavator was used to carefully remove parts of the house.

The smoldering fire in the thatched roof quickly developed into a fire due to the introduction of oxygen and suddenly spread to the entire roof area.

An off-road vehicle parked at the house could be towed away in time, so that the vehicle remained intact.

A total of five volunteer fire brigades with around 70 emergency services were at the scene of the fire for more than four hours.

Why the fire broke out in the house in the small community was initially unclear.

Criminal Investigation Department took over the investigation.

According to the police, the fire caused damage of around 750,000 euros.

Oliver Geissen first came to prominence in Hamburg as the radio host of the private broadcaster OK Radio, before he switched to the TV business, first to ZDF and later to RTL, where he presented a daily talk show until 2009.

Most recently he led various music shows at RTL (“The Ultimate Chart Show”) and can now be seen there at the rate show “Kitsch or Cashier”.
