Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Members of a corona risk group will receive FFP2 masks free of charge in pharmacies in the country from Tuesday.

The Federal Ministry of Health has published a corresponding ordinance, as announced by the State Pharmacists' Association.

The delivery of three protective masks is free in December.

In January and February, those affected would have to pay two euros for six masks.

The pharmacists in the south-west are expecting a rush for the offer and are therefore calling not to flock to the pharmacies on the first day and to avoid queues.

The Federal Ministry of Health is assuming costs of 2.5 billion euros and around 27 million beneficiaries across Germany.

According to the information, this applies to people who are older than 60 years as well as certain previously ill and high-risk patients.

These include, for example, women with high-risk pregnancies, people with severe lung diseases or people with dementia.

FFP2 masks are particularly effective at filtering particles, but they also do not offer 100% protection.
