Munich (dpa / lby) - The Bavarian trade overturns its forecast for the Christmas business after the latest Corona resolutions.

The originally expected 14 billion euros in sales will not be achieved, said the managing director of the Bavarian Trade Association, Bernd Ohlmann, on Monday.

"The Christmas business is over."

Ohlmann said that brick-and-mortar retailers would lose 150 million euros in sales per day due to the expected closure of many shops on Wednesday.

In the remaining two days he expects increased business, "but no mass rush".

Around two thirds of the Bavarian retail trade are affected - around 40,000 businesses.

In addition, according to Ohlmann, an even larger proportion of Christmas shopping will now be relocated to the Internet.

On a conservative basis, he assumes online sales of 3 billion euros.

In November the association had expected 2.3 billion.

However, online trading cannot compensate for everything.

Part of the now lost sales in the stationary trade could only be postponed: Under many Christmas trees this year vouchers would be "Christmas problem solvers", says Ohlmann.

"Our great hope is that people will come after January 10."
