Rostock (dpa / mv) - The Corona crisis management of the State Tourism Association Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has been awarded a special prize from the German Tourism Prize.

The fast and strategic action of the association has set nationwide standards, praised the jury, according to information from the regional tourism association on Monday.

The cooperation with politics was also appreciated.

Tourism is one of the most important branches of the economy in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The German Tourism Prize is one of the most important awards in the German travel industry and was awarded digitally on Monday.

This year, 158 participants reportedly applied.

A thematic framework was set for the first time under the heading “New Start”.

The search was for the best projects and products to secure the future of tourism in Germany.

As early as March, the state tourism association MV, according to its own information, presented a strategy paper on restarting tourism after the spring lockdown.

It provided for a phase model and eleven protection standards for various tourist areas.

The state government linked this with its Corona ordinance.

After the end of the lockdown, guests from their own federal state were allowed to return to vacation since May 18, and a week later guests from all over Germany - except from risk areas.

Since November tourist overnight stays have been banned again in MV.

In preparation for the time after the lockdown, a seal introduced at the beginning of December “More security in the holiday region MV” is intended to further increase the responsible use of the applicable protection standards for the tourism industry, as it was said.
