Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Despite the nationwide Corona shutdown, relatives of Hamburgers can stay in hotels at Christmas.

Between December 24 and 26, the hotels in the Hanseatic city can also be booked privately, as a spokesman for the economic authority of the German press agency said on Monday.

Tourist trips are still prohibited.

Originally, hotel stays were to be

allowed for family

visits from December 23rd to January

1st.

"It has been evident for some time that there will be no opening until the New Year," said Niklaus Kaiser von Rosenburg from the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga).

In order to equalize arrival and departure, however, the industry association would like a wider time window for the relaxation.

"Here you should specify that arrival on December 23rd and departure on December 27th are possible," demanded Kaiser von Rosenburg.

According to Dehogha, there are around 360 hotels in Hamburg with a total of more than 65,000 beds.

In November 2019, the Hanseatic city's hotels were occupied by up to 85 percent, thanks in part to trade fairs and other events.

A year later, because of the corona pandemic, it was just around ten percent, said Kaiser von Rosenburg.
