Cologne (dpa / lnw) - The Christmas Eve services in Cologne Cathedral are already booked out.

The 250 available places for prayer at 4 p.m. and masses at 6 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. as well as the pontifical mass at midnight were all booked within a few hours.

A spokesman for the cathedral said in the afternoon that there are still some places for church services on Christmas Day.

The spaces are free, but must be reserved in advance due to the Corona regulations.

In other parishes, too, some of the Christmas Eve services are already booked out.

A spokesman for the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) said that the churches had long since established extensive hygiene protection concepts for face-to-face services.

"This also includes the distance requirement, mask requirement, singing ban and lists of participants."

The plans would be adjusted where necessary.

"It goes without saying that we want to do everything we can at our church services to prevent health risks, and that is a clear consequence of the Christian commandment of charity," said the spokesman.
