Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival has also canceled the New Year's concerts planned for January 9 and 10 in Ulrichshusen (Mecklenburg Lake District) due to the corona.

Due to the lockdown agreed between the federal and state governments to protect the population, both events could not take place, the organizers announced on Monday.

With this, the hope of a successful restart of the popular classical music festival in the new year has been dashed.

As early as March, the festival had to cancel the festival spring on Rügen due to the corona pandemic.

The festival summer, for which more than 150 events were planned, took place with a considerably reduced program.

Instead of the usual 80,000, only 5600 concert-goers were counted.

The additionally organized festival winter with around 30 concerts in November and December also had to be canceled due to the drastic increase in the number of infections.

The last concert in 2020 should take place on December 20th at Ulrichshusen Castle with the clarinetist Matthias Schorn.

According to a spokesman, a total of seven concerts were planned for January.

Tickets for the two canceled events could be returned online.

For the concerts after January 10th, the festival organizers assume “as things stand” that they will take place.
