Daun (dpa / lrs) - The new mayor of the Daun community in the Vulkaneifel district is called Thomas Scheppe (CDU).

The 32-year-old prevailed on Sunday in a runoff election with 51.7 percent of the votes against Jens Jenssen (SPD), as the community in Daun announced.

48.3 percent voted for Jenssen (41).

The association has 18,700 eligible voters.

The new mayor succeeds Werner Klöckner (61 / CDU), who retired after 26 years in the summer for health reasons.

According to the association, Scheppe should take up his post as soon as possible.

Around 22,000 people live in the community.
