Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The top candidate of the Rhineland-Palatinate Greens, Anne Spiegel, goes into the election campaign for the state elections on March 14th without a coalition statement.

"It is crucial for us that we put our content forward and that there is a strong voice for climate protection in the next government," said the Minister of the German Press Agency in Mainz.

She does not want to take part in the other parties' “numbers games and competitions” and has not yet decided on an election target, said the Minister for Integration, Family and Environment Minister-designate.

In the state elections in 2016, the Greens had just entered the state parliament with 5.3 percent and are the smallest of the three partners in the traffic light government.

The Greens had good experiences with digital formats in the election campaign, so that people outside of the Green supporters could also be reached, said Spiegel. "Digital townhalls" with a direct candidate in the Landtag on site or on topics such as inclusion in sport, Spiegel cited as examples. It is not yet clear how much the pandemic will mess up the election campaign and how many direct encounters are possible. "I'm dying to be out and about in the country."
