For forty years, Algeria has supported the Polisario Front, an armed political movement, which demands the independence of Western Sahara, a territory considered "

non-autonomous

" by the United Nations and occupied by Morocco.

Donald Trump's recent decision to

recognize Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara escalates tension across the region.

In the absence of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for health reasons, Algerian Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad does not mince his words.

There is now a will of the Zionist entity to move closer to our borders,

 " he said.

For him, the normalization of relations between Morocco and Israel, as well as the recognition by the United States of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, are two blows in the same game of chess whose objective is to weaken the Algerian position in the region.

Algeria ready to assume its responsibilities

Since November 13, tensions have resumed between the

Polisario Front

, an armed political movement demanding independence for Western Sahara, and Morocco, after Rabat sent soldiers to the far south of this territory to dislodge Sahrawi militants. .

In this conflict, Algeria intends to assume its responsibilities.

Already in its December issue, the review of the National People's Army (ANP) says it is “

forced to assume its regional obligations

”,

given its unchanging support for

all just causes

 ”.

In a press release published on December 12 afternoon, the Algerian Foreign Ministry recalls that "

the conflict in Western Sahara is a question of decolonization which can only be resolved through the application of international law

 ".
