The Swiss Mauro Caviezel won on Saturday in the first super-G of the season in Val d'Isère, where the French Alexis Pinturault, with his 7th place, performed well in his quest for the big crystal globe.

Under the snow and in increasingly limited visibility conditions, Caviezel at the age of 32 signed his first World Cup victory for this first speed test of the season.

Winner of the specialty globe last season, the Swiss are just 10 hundredths ahead of Norwegian Adrian Smiseth Sejersted, 26, who was on a World Cup podium for the first time.

Just like the Austrian Christian Walder, third, at 54 hundredths.

With his 7th place, Pinturault, more specialist in technical events, scores points compared to the Swiss Marco Odermatt (13th), a fit man at the start of the season as a giant and rival in the race for the big globe.
