Tomorrow, Sunday, is the deadline for the Brexit negotiations between the UK and the EU.

Both parties have said that a so-called hard Brexit is likely, ie that the UK will leave the EU's internal market and customs union without an agreement.

At the same time as the negotiations have been going on, British society has been preparing.

The A16 motorway, near Calais, France, has in recent weeks been filled with trucks crowded to cross into Britain.

This is due to increased demand for goods from the EU.

"Fearing new tariffs"

The sharp increase in vehicles on the roads has caused kilometer-long queues and a number of traffic problems.

- The British are bunkering like never before.

They fear new tariffs, procedures and fees, Sébastien Rivera, secretary general of France's national transport organization, told Le Monde.

Another source tells the newspaper that the number of trucks has increased from about 12,000 a day in both directions to up to 18,000 in the last two weeks.

Boris Johnson: Prepare

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson, who on Thursday stated that negotiations with the EU on the agreement had stalled, has called on the British to prepare.

- We do not interrupt the talks, the negotiations continue.

But given where we stand, it is important that everyone now prepares for the Australian model, the Prime Minister said then, which would mean a Brexit without a trade agreement at all.

But Malcolm Turnbull, Australia's former prime minister, has previously raised a warning finger.

- Be careful what you want.

Australia's relationship with the EU from a trade perspective is not a relationship that Britain wants, he told the BBC on Friday.
