“This leader has a role of coordinator of the team, of the project, of interlocutor for the partner movements.

It's an internal role, ”explains MP Marie Guévenoux, in charge of regional elections for LREM, to AFP.

"In due time, we will have candidates that we will support, but this time has not come," she added.

In the six missing regions (Corsica, PACA, Hauts-de-France, Brittany, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Normandy), the leaders should be appointed in early 2021. But these appointments do not preempt the outcome of the political negotiations which take place in parallel, while in New Aquitaine or Center-Val de Loire, Modem ministers Geneviève Darrieussecq and Marc Fesneau could ultimately lead the majority list.

The regional elections, initially scheduled for March 2021, should be postponed to June due to the health context.

Given this timetable, the candidates supported by LREM should be known between February and March 2021.
