"Welcome back!": Emmanuel Macron greeted Saturday in English the announced return of the United States, with the coming to power of Joe Biden, in the Paris climate agreement concluded five years ago and for which " action must be immediate ".

"Welcome back, welcome home!"

(glad to see you again at home!), launched the French president "to our American friends", in his speech before the "climate ambition summit" organized virtually by the UN, France and Great Britain.

"We continued to move forward, to work despite the American choice," he said, referring to the withdrawal from the United States decided by Donald Trump, and "we have held on".

The French Head of State however also underlined the difficulties which remain to be overcome to meet the objectives of this agreement concluded five years ago to the day: "We do not have much time in front of us and the action must to be immediate, we know that ".

Mr. Macron notably insisted on the need to "give us a trajectory and credible means to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050".
