In response to NATO's actions in the Arctic, the Northern Fleet is building up its technical capabilities with the help of new nuclear submarines, frigates and landing ships, as well as anti-aircraft missile and coastal missile systems.

At the same time, as noted in the Northern Fleet, "currently there are no challenges in the Arctic that require the use of military force."

Earlier, Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced the expansion of NATO's presence in Europe near Russian borders.

In October, Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, noted that NATO is trying to restrict Russia's activities in the Arctic.

Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov, in turn, said that the activity of NATO countries is observed at a distance of 20-30 km from the Russian borders.
