According to Region Västmanland's latest updated statistics, 232 people in the county have died as a result of covid-19.

The pressure on care is increasing and on Tuesday the decision was made to open an intensive care unit only for covid patients at the hospital in Västerås.

Nearly 11,000 inhabitants in the county have tested positive for covid-19 - at the beginning of November that figure was just over 4,200.

"It simply could not go on like this.

We do not yet see a slowdown in the number of patients who come to us.

We must help to stop the spread of infection, otherwise many more people risk becoming ill with covid-19.

Unfortunately, the development continues in the completely wrong direction ", says Cherin Kamil, operations manager at Infektionskliniken Västerås, in a press release on Friday.

"Stay at home for disease symptoms"

As of Monday, local restrictions will be replaced by stricter national councils.

"I cannot stress enough the importance of all of us following the general guidelines that apply;

stay at home for symptoms of illness, try covid-19, keep your distance, wash your hands often, work from home if you can, travel only if you have to and only meet those you live with, ”says Cherin Kamil, in the press release.
