The crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic has hit "the most contractually fragile and disadvantaged workers hard".

According to Istat data on the labor market in the third quarter of the year, fixed-term employees who lost their jobs within 12 months went from 16.9% in the third quarter of 2019 to 23.3% in 2020, and the transition to stable work was much smaller, from 23.9% to 22.4%.

But there are other weak segments that have shown a more marked worsening: women, among which the loss of work went from 7% to 9.2%, while among men it rose from 5.5% to 7%;

young people, who went from 8.8% to 12.8% and above all foreigners: who went from 6.7% to 10.5%.

Against a variation from 6.1% to 7.6% for Italians. In addition, according to Istat, in the third quarter the number of employees returned to growth in economic terms (+ 56 thousand, + 0.2%). as a result of a more substantial increase in employees than the decline in independent employees.

The employment rate rises to 57.9%.

However, the unemployment rate is also growing again, rising to 10% (+0.9 points), and still mainly concerns women and young people aged 15-34.
