Berlin (dpa / bb) - Deutsche Post is expected to deliver around 400,000 parcels a day in Berlin and the Brandenburg area during the Christmas season.

That would be around 15 percent more than in the previous record period of 2019, as a postal spokesman announced on Thursday.

In total, the two parcel centers responsible for this region in Börnicke and Rüdersdorf process more than 580,000 shipments every day.

3000 additional colleagues would be deployed in Berlin and Brandenburg in "all areas of production" to relieve the burden.

"In Berlin alone there are an additional 2300 vehicles in use," it said.

The additional forces are currently sufficient to cope with the parcel volume.

Most of the parcels can be delivered the next day.

The corona crisis, however, complicates the processes.

The staff is currently working in small groups, the deliverers are traveling in waves.

This is another reason why delivery can take a few days longer.

If you want to receive your order on time for Christmas, you have to make sure that it arrives at the post office by December 19.

Later on, punctual delivery can no longer be guaranteed.

Nationwide, more than eleven million parcels will be transported in the coming days.
