Have you seen the Korean movie "Sowon"?

On December 12, 2020, the prototype criminal in this movie, Zhao Douchun, who kidnapped, raped, and injured an 8-year-old girl in real life, was released from prison.

South Korean media commented that "the devil has returned to the world again."

01. Small flowers ravaged by the storm

In the southwestern part of Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, there is Ansan, a city with a strong cultural and artistic atmosphere and prosperity and harmony.

It is also one of the most popular tourist cities in South Korea because of its natural landscape.

However, in the winter 12 years ago, the rape of girls that shocked the whole country cast a terrible shadow on the city.

In the Korean movie "Suwon", 8-year-old elementary school student Suwon meets the murderer.

At 8:30 in the morning on December 11, 2008, 8-year-old primary school student Naying (victim's pseudonym) went to school happily with her schoolbag on her back as usual.

"I have to go to church." Zhao Douchun, 56 years old at the time, was drunk and said to Naying who passed by him.

He suddenly abducted her and carried out several hours of violence, rape, and torture in the church bathroom.

Naying groaned and cried because of fear and pain.

In order to prevent Naying from resisting, Zhao Douchun tried to pinch her neck, even bit her tender cheek with his mouth, grabbed the little girl's hair many times, and dipped her face into the toilet water.

After multiple sexual assaults, in order to destroy the evidence, Zhao Douchun threw the wounded and blood-stained Naying into the cold winter pool and washed her body with tap water many times.

After everything was over, Zhao Douchun walked away.

And what is left to Naying is something that can never be filled, is filled with despair, fear, shame and trembling

  Black abyss.

02. 12 years of "Purgatory Time"

"Although there are many crimes of sexual violence, it is the first time that the damage has been so deep," the police responsible for investigating the case once said.

In the South Korean movie "Suwon", a little girl who was sexually assaulted wakes up in the hospital.

The appearance of Naying when she was sent to the hospital was unimaginable for ordinary people, breaking through the bottom line acceptable to normal people.

  -Abdominal pelvic fracture

-Large and small intestine outflow and necrosis

-80% damage to anus and sexual organs

——Need to carry urine bag with you

  -May be infertile for life

This is everything that a weak girl who was only 8 years old at the time would face.

"Twelve years may be nothing to most people, but for my children, it is a period of purgatory time when you must make yourself strong enough to protect yourself." Naying's father is giving the novel "Sowon" In the recommended words, write like this.

The tender little flower was ruthlessly destroyed by the storm, and it was not only the branches and leaves that were injured. The innocent and innocent heart that grew carelessly in the sun could never go back to the past.

Due to her physical inconvenience, Naying was worried that it would cause trouble to others, her personality became reserved and she did not dare to talk to others.

The simplest family activity, sitting together, laughing and watching TV, is difficult to achieve in Naying's house—as long as she hears news or topics about sexual violence on TV, Naying will faint.

The children's parents are also very careful in speaking, and they have repeatedly thought of suicide.

But for the sake of their daughter, for more than ten years, they could only bear with tears in silence, trying to struggle out of their nightmare.

Naying's father was interviewed.

"There is no way to know if you haven't experienced it," Naying's father said.

What happened 12 years ago left this family with a root cause that could never be eliminated. "If you think that you will forget it over time, then you are wrong."

Fortunately, everything seems to be developing in a good direction.

Naying is now a college student.

She dreams of becoming a doctor and helping more people.

After multiple operations, she can also get rid of the poop bag and live like a normal person. She will also eat fried rice cakes and play with friends after school.

Here, it would be nice if the curtain came to a close as warmly as the movie ending.

However, reality is not a movie, the "demon" is back.

03. The cell "boss" accused of having no reflection

On the morning of December 12, 2020, Zhao Douchun was released after serving his sentence.

"After I get out of prison, I want to sell coffee with my wife in the mountains near my home." Zhao Doo-soon once talked about his plans with his inmates who were detained at the No. 1 Prison in North Gyeongsang Province.

He will return to his residence, Ansan City.

Local residents said, “When people get together recently, they will talk about Zhao Douchun. Both men, women and children are worried. I really hope that Zhao Douchun will not be released from prison.”

Naying's father had previously implored the government and Ansan City to persuade Zhao Doo-soon to live in other places, "I don't know why he said to reflect, but he must return to the place where the victim lives."

So, did Zhao Douchun really reflect?

Or according to the Korean media, from the moment he stood in court until he was released from prison, he never thought about reflecting.

57 hours after the incident, the police locked Zhao Douchun and arrested him.

In the initial interrogation, he appeared to be ignorant, as if the police had really caught the wrong person.

Until the police came up with all kinds of evidence, what was waiting was not a confession, but his cheeky sentence, "I was drunk and can't remember it."

In the end, Zhao Douchun was only sentenced to 12 years in prison because of his "weak mind and old age".

In 12 years, there was no change in this criminal.

The inmate described Zhao Douchun when he saw him for the first time and said, “As soon as he looked at him, he had the face of a criminal. The eyes can tell, and the eyebrows are terrible.” Zhao Douchun in prison is the “boss” in the cell. Because of staying in a room for a long time, "I am also old and look bad."

In the more than 300 petitions he has written, almost every one repeats claiming that he is "innocent" and "pleads" to meet the victims.

In the eyes of the inmates who have been with him day and night, Zhao Douchun is a "very vicious and despicable person."

They said that Zhao Douchun did not reflect, was not civilized, and was as violent as before, but was suppressed because of isolation in prison.

It is said that Zhao Douchun insisted on exercising in prison. He is nearly 70 years old and has a 30-year-old body. He can easily do 1,000 push-ups in one hour.

Such a "demon" who has had 18 criminal convictions, once pierced the eyes of his companion dog and died, and has extremely high scores on the antisocial personality disorder test and re-offending risk assessment, has regained his freedom.

04. Will the tragedy happen again?

Hearing the news of Zhao Douchun's release from prison, Anshan City "was trembling from top to bottom."

Such a terrible person will appear in the daily life of people sleeping, waking up, and eating. I don’t know when, the next victim will appear...

Many residents in Ansan opposed his return because they were worried that Zhao Douchun would commit another crime after he was released from prison.

Some residents even said, "As soon as Zhao Douchun returns, we will leave Anshan immediately."

On December 2, 2020, South Korean people held a protest rally against Cho Doo-soon’s impending release from prison in front of the detention center in southern Seoul.

In order to calm residents' emotions, the Ministry of Justice of South Korea and the Ansan City Government have prepared a series of emergency measures. In addition to adding dozens of surveillance cameras near Cho Doo-soon's residence, local police officers will also conduct large-scale inspections of surveillance and other preventive facilities.

However, the irony is that the "release" of Zhao Douchun increased the government's massive purchase and installation of security equipment, and promoted the local economy.

Over the years, despite the pain that was hard to erase, the Naying family did not leave the Anshan area even if they moved.

Naying once said that there are friends who accept her, "Everyone treats her very well".

This time, when I learned that Zhao Douchun would be released from prison, I thought that I would meet the person who had done evil to her in the future, and Naying would be haunted by nightmares every night.

Her parents finally made up their minds and moved out of Anshan.

Many people speculate that after Zhao Douchun is released from prison, he will live with his wife.

No matter where Naying's family moved before, Zhao Douchun's wife would move with them, always keeping a 5-minute drive away.

She also tried her best to "wash white" for her husband, saying that "the husband just drank too much and is usually a good person."

As for moving with the victim, she even downplayed: "I don't care where she (Naying) lives, I don't know, nor do I want to know."

"It's not just me, but even the surrounding residents feel terrified. I really can't understand why this is the case." "The perpetrators are fine. I don't know why the victims and the residents are shaking away."

Naying's father once asked angrily about this.

Just as the Korean people wrote on the petition, why should the "beast" that ruined a child's life be released?

Why should I shorten the period of jail when I am drunk?

05. The cost of sexual crimes is "not high enough", which is a pain in this country

"As we all know, the penalty of life imprisonment is applicable in many countries. But South Korea treats sex offenses very leniently, so they commit crimes fearlessly and live comfortably in prison with taxpayer money. I hope they can be Society is permanently isolated." Naying's father once said.

People's dissatisfaction with Zhao Douchun's sentence has never stopped for more than ten years.

Since the incident, there have been nearly 7,000 petition posts about Cho Doo-sun on the South Korean Blue House petition website.

At the end of 2017, more than 600,000 South Koreans petitioned for a retrial of the Cho Doo-soon case and increased punishment.

However, at that time, the Blue House responded with "it is impossible to retrial or increase the penalty", stating that the case cannot be filed again for the confirmed judgment.

In 2018, on the Blue House petition website, a petition titled "Against Zhao Douchun's Release from Prison" was supported by more than 260,000 people.

The government replied again that although the case cannot be retrial due to legal issues, with the amendment of many laws, "there will be no more incidents like Zhao Douchun."

-In 2010, the South Korean National Assembly extended the upper limit of imprisonment to 30 years.

——In 2011, South Korea further strengthened its laws against child sex crimes and began chemical castration.

——In 2019, the "Joe Doo-soon Act" officially began to be implemented in South Korea, with strict supervision of certain persons released after serving their sentences to prevent re-offending.

—— In 2020, as the time for Jo Doo-soon’s release from prison approaches, South Korea once again strengthened its laws to restrict child sex offenders from going out.

However, in the six years since 2006, cases of sexual assault of children under the age of 13 have occurred frequently in South Korea, with an average of more than 2 per day.

In the five years from 2012 to 2017, at least 5,104 cases of sexual abuse involving minors occurred, an average of 3 cases per day, and more than 94% of the victims were children under 13 years of age.

Former South Korean President Lee Myung-bak expressed his support for the "chemical castration law."

In addition, while wearing electronic anklets, South Korea still has an average of 60 sexual crimes every year.

In the re-offending cases, more than half occurred within 1 kilometer from the home of the electronic anklet wearer, and 33% occurred within 100 meters.

Data map: Zhao Zhubin, the principal culprit in the South Korean "Room N" case.

Not only that, but digital sex crimes are becoming more and more rampant.

In 2020, the "House N" incident that shook the whole of South Korea will involve at least 70 victims and a wide range of issues.

  The perpetrators never stopped appearing.

Their crimes and punishments are limited, and the scars engraved on the victim's body and mind require endless time to heal.

Although Zhao Douchun's photos and other personal information will be published online for 5 years after he is released from prison, he will also need to wear a positionable electronic anklet for 7 years, but this is not enough to calm people's fears.

Installing cameras, implementing one-to-one electronic supervision, drinking restrictions... The problems left to the South Korean police and the Ministry of Justice are not only to deal with a former criminal, but more importantly, how to prevent the next "Zhao Douchun" from appearing.
