Halle (dpa) - In the case of the six-year-old rescued from a river from Halle, investigators found a 24-year-old suspect.

The man from Halle was provisionally arrested around 12.20 p.m. at his job in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district, the police said.

According to the investigation, the suspect is said to have carried the little girl mostly in his arms through Halle's city center on Sunday when the child disappeared at home.

The girl had only been dressed in pajamas in the cool temperatures.

At first, the investigators did not comment on whether it was possibly a kidnapping or another criminal offense.

Against the 24-year-old there is "urgent suspicion," it said.

Previously, the investigators had received several information from the population.

A nine-member investigation team called "Elsa" had previously dealt intensively with the case.

Two published phantom images should also lead to the suspect.

Two joggers had spotted the girl in the hall on Sunday around 8:30 a.m.

Before that, calls for help could be heard.

But the case was a mystery.

According to the investigation, the six-year-old was seen in the family apartment at around 7:30 that morning.

When the child's disappearance was noticed, the six-year-old was reported missing.

The girl lives with her parents hundreds of meters from the Saale, according to the information.

On Friday, the Halle public prosecutor's office said that several references to the case had been received.

At noon, officials were able to confront the 24-year-old.

Further details were not known with reference to the ongoing investigation.
