Rep. Kang-wook Choi of the Open Democratic Party representatively proposed an amendment to the Prosecutors' Office Act and Court Organization Act, which prohibits prosecutors and judges from running for public office for one year after retirement.

Currently, prosecutors and judges can run for public office if they resign 90 days prior to the Public Office Election Act.

The amendment stipulated a one-year limit to run for public office in order to ensure political neutrality in investigation, prosecution and trial.

According to the bill, prosecutors or judges who want to run for the next presidential election must retire by March 9th next year. It is interpreted that it is aimed at Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, who is mentioned as an opposition candidate.

At a press conference for initiating the bill, Rep. Kang-wook Choi said, "Currently, the public is suffering from division of opinion and disruption in the performance of state affairs due to the political acts of the prosecutor general and some prosecutors." "We want to use it as an opportunity to increase the neutrality of our people."
