Bergrheinfeld / Mellrichstadt (dpa / lby) - The transmission system operator TransnetBW has submitted a plan approval application to the Federal Network Agency for the construction of the Suedlink wind power line in Lower Franconia.

"This means that one of the central projects for the success of the energy transition is making further progress," TransnetBW announced on Friday.

The Lower Franconian section for the wind power line lies between Mellrichstadt (district of Rhön-Grabfeld) and Bergrheinfeld (district of Schweinfurt).

The wind power is to be transported from the north to the south of Germany via new high-voltage direct current connections such as Suedlink.

Citizens' initiatives against the plans have formed in many places across Germany.

In a plan approval procedure, individual issues relating to development or noise and environmental protection are examined.

The procedure ends with a type of building permit, a so-called plan approval decision.
