Seven suspects were arrested Monday in Marseille and Aubagne (Bouches-du-Rhône), in an investigation into boat thefts, which occurred this summer, in Grau-du-Roi and Saint-Laurent d'Aigouze (Gard), said the Gard gendarmes on Thursday.

More than 200 gendarmes, supported by the GIGN, took part in this operation.

A hundred stolen vehicles discovered

Searches enabled the gendarmes to discover a vast network of vehicle thefts of all kinds: 14 boats, 12 boat engines, as well as a hundred other vehicles, many of which were spare parts, were found.

In addition, the investigators discovered in the Bouches-du-Rhône cash, a handgun and ammunition, but also material allowing to remake the license plates and to "make up" the stolen vehicles.

This vast network, which operated from a derelict industrial wasteland, is accused of having "an international dimension": some vehicles have been sent abroad.
