The Director of the Child Safety Department, affiliated to the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, Hanadi Saleh Al-Yafei, confirmed to "Emirates Today" that since the beginning of the spread of the new Corona virus, its administration has been alerted to the need to intensify awareness-raising efforts, given that children who spend a long time at home are vulnerable Also, for other dangers, especially as parents are busy with work, during the distance learning period.

She indicated that its administration was keen to adopt a positive and interactive approach, and to benefit from modern technological options, as it launched a series of initiatives and activities that respond to the general and global situation of anxiety witnessed by societies, by organizing an integrated educational and awareness program, which included more than 85 workshops, benefiting Of these, 12,700 are children, teens, and parents.

And she continued: “We focused on dispelling the fears of children and their families, as a result of the pandemic, and we sought to enable families and children to face the repercussions of the crisis with awareness, as emphasis was placed on the importance of enhancing trust among all family members and providing spaces for effective and positive communication between children and parents.”

She added: “The administration, during the quarantine period and the series of preventive measures that came with it, taken by the UAE, presented a package of activities, including physical and mental activities, programs and various workshops aimed at helping children and families cope with a new reality imposed on them, within a short period. This required intensifying awareness-raising efforts and initiatives to protect them and their safety from the spread of the virus, as well as maintaining their physical and psychological integrity, after staying at home for longer periods of time.

She explained that among the activities launched by the Child Safety Department: “Safety at home” and “Ramadan behaviors”, which included a weekly schedule to organize the child's time, and a number of suggested tasks that can be accomplished, in addition to a number of drawing, coloring, decorating and mental games. .

She pointed out that the administration organized the "Child Safety Summer Camp", which presented (remotely) 20 virtual workshops over the past two months of July and August, targeting more than 5,400 children with their families, and dealing with topics including first aid, electronic security, bullying, and others. Among the issues related to physical and psychological safety during the summer vacation, and preparing children and adolescents for a new stage of education with the start of the new school year.

And she continued: “The administration launched an awareness campaign on social media entitled # My Safety My Future, on how to provide a safe environment for children at home, dealing with safety in the kitchen, dealing with suffocation, prevention of home fires, safety while swimming, electronic security, in addition to producing about 20 videos of doctors who talked about children's health, the most prominent health risks facing them, and how to act in different situations, such as: suffocation, swallowing foreign bodies, dealing with burns, dental care, the effect of staying up late on the child's health, and others ».
