The University of Sharjah is the first locally, the third in the Gulf, and the eighth in the Arab world in the "Green Metric" world classification.

The University of Sharjah continued its progress in the UI Green Metric university ranking, which works on the classification and evaluation of universities worldwide in the fields of sustainable development and commitment to clean environment standards.

The university ranked first at the state level for the fourth year in a row since it entered the classification in 2017, 100 international ranks higher than last year, as it ranked 194 in the world out of 912 participating universities and ranked third at the level of the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States from Out of 13 participating Gulf universities, and ranked eighth in the Arab world out of 106 participating Arab universities.

His Excellency Dr. Humaid Majool Al Nuaimi, Director of the University of Sharjah, affirmed the university’s commitment to implementing the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, President of the University, which provides for concern for sustainable development, addressing environmental problems, and integrating and implementing the concept of sustainability in many courses and activities within it. The increasing interest in the fields of sustainable development and commitment to clean environment standards at the university.

He said that the university is working to raise awareness among students about sustainability and how to address environmental problems that have a severe impact on peoples, through the many activities and events that it organizes during the academic year, with which students and members of the faculty and administrative staff participate and interact with them inside and outside the university.

He added that the university established the Sustainability Office several years ago, which in turn formed many "sustainability groups and circles" that work to implement and integrate the concept of sustainability into every aspect of life within the university, in addition to caring for and increasing green spaces to reduce air pollution and reduce harmful emissions. Environment by reducing energy consumption and computerizing educational and administrative processes to reduce paper consumption.

It is noteworthy that the process of ranking universities "UI Green Metric" is based on six basic criteria through which a number of indicators are measured: infrastructure, suitability of facilities and facilities, efficiency in energy use and reducing gas emissions, and the extent to which the principles of integrated solid and liquid waste management are applied. And vitality, effective management of water resources, sustainable transportation, and sustainable development in educational aspects and scientific research in this field.
