Dortmund (dpa / lnw) - The sports presenter Werner Hansch has received a suspended fine after allegations of fraud.

A spokesman for the Dortmund district court said on Thursday the German press agency.

A corresponding penalty order was delivered to Hansch on Wednesday.

It is a "warning with reservation of punishment".

Accordingly, the 82-year-old would only have to pay a fine - 180 daily rates of 40 euros - if he should become conspicuous again in the next two years, explained the court spokesman.

The "Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung" had previously reported.

In August, as the then newly crowned winner of the Sat.1 show “Promi Big Brother”, Hansch was charged with fraud.

The spokesman said that there will not be a main hearing in court.

The public prosecutor's office had brought charges because Hansch is said to have sneaked loans from acquaintances in six cases and pretended to want to repay the money.

Among other things, he borrowed 5,000 euros from CDU politician Wolfgang Bosbach.

At the time the indictment was brought, Hansch owed his creditors a total of 34,500 euros.

Hansch's lawyer Alfons Becker told the dpa that his client accepted the so-called warning with reservation of punishment.

A main hearing is spared him.

His actions were due to the "gambling addiction disease".

Becker emphasized that the profits from the TV show were fully invested in the debt repayment.

He assumes that the claims of the creditors have been satisfied.

Hansch had repeatedly shown remorseful publicly in the past.
