US Deputy Secretary of State: The US strongly supports cooperation between South Korea and North Korea

  Xinhua News Agency, Seoul, December 10 (Reporter Lu Rui and Geng Xuepeng) US Deputy Secretary of State and Special Representative for North Korea Policy Stephen Biegen, who is visiting South Korea, said in Seoul on the 10th that the United States strongly supports South Korea-North Korea cooperation, including humanitarian cooperation. The window of opportunity facing North Korea is still open.

The two sides exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula issue and agreed that in order to achieve denuclearization and permanent peace on the peninsula, it is now more important than ever.

South Korea and the United States need to cooperate more closely to continuously advance the peace process on the peninsula.

  Biegun said that the South Korean government has played a very important role in building peace on the peninsula and promoting the development of North-South relations.

Lee In Young said that the current situation is in an important period of change, and it is hoped that on the basis of close policy coordination and cooperation, the two countries will make substantial progress in realizing the denuclearization of the peninsula and building peace on the peninsula.

  Biegun arrived in South Korea on the 8th to begin his visit and plans to return to the United States on the 12th.

  From June 2018 to June 2019, U.S. President Trump and North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong Un met three times in Singapore, Hanoi, and Panmunjom. However, the two sides still have key issues such as denuclearization steps and lifting of sanctions related to North Korea.
