This year's twelve Nobel Prize winners will not get to experience the grand ceremony that is usually held in the Blue Hall on December 10 every year.

Under normal circumstances, this is when the winners each receive a 196 gram heavy medal in 18 carat gold.

However, none of them will have to worry about being without their gold nugget.

The medals will be sent to the participants with diplomatic letters, reports Norwegian NRK.

In total, deliveries will be made to eight cities in four different countries.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry is responsible for eleven of the deliveries, while Norway sends out the peace prize.

- In a year where humanity is exposed to great trials as this year, we were happy that we were able to present new Nobel Prize winners in October. And that we now get to hand out both medals and diplomas, says Lars Heikensten, CEO of the Nobel Foundation.
