Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - The state of Hesse wants to provide 1.4 billion euros in addition for the municipal financial equalization (KFA) due to the corona pandemic.

The money should primarily benefit financially weaker cities, municipalities and districts, said the financial policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Michael Reul, on Thursday evening in the state parliament in Wiesbaden.

"Providing the cities, municipalities and districts with appropriate funding is one of the most important tasks of the State of Hesse," he explained.

This is guaranteed by the KFA, which this year amounts to almost six billion euros.

Hesse's municipalities will receive a total of more than three billion euros from the state to deal with the corona pandemic. Most of the money comes from the credit-financed Corona special fund. From the already paid trade tax compensation amounting to around 1.2 billion euros with a national share of a good 660 million euros, the tax-heavy cities and municipalities benefited, said Reul. With the approximately 1.4 billion euros now planned, the KFA is to increase continuously by 112 million euros annually until 2024. The money is intended, among other things, for hospitals, protective measures at schools and daycare centers and for compensating for the failed daycare contributions.
