Dresden / Augustusburg (dpa / sn) - A corona warning system that works without a smartphone is currently being tested in Saxony.

In Augustusburg near Chemnitz, the prototype of the so-called Corona Warning Buzzer is being tested under real conditions with a maximum of 2500 participants, as the Ministry of Social Affairs announced on Thursday.

The Free State is funding the project with two million euros.

The device, about the size of a car key, can use Bluetooth to recognize and save contacts with other people who use the Corona warning app on their smartphone or a Corona warning buzzer.

The stored data will be deleted after 14 days.

If an app or buzzer user reports an infection in the meantime, all close contacts should be immediately determined electronically or via the health department and informed as soon as possible.
