The World Summit of Governments, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program and the African Peer Review Mechanism of the African Union, organized the Africa Future Forum, with the aim of exchanging experiences and future visions on the most prominent future strategic plans and government directions to keep pace with the radical changes brought about by the emerging coronavirus pandemic, with the participation of ministers From the UAE, seven ministers from six African countries, international officials and global experts.

The participants reviewed their visions and future visions for achieving the United Nations Agenda, the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, and the African Union Agenda 2063.

The Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Head of the World Government Summit, Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, affirmed that the UAE believes in the centrality of joint international work in designing and making the future, and is keen to strengthen efforts and provide opportunities for exchanging experiences, experiences and successful practices among world governments, and building a common system for future-based visions and strategies. To serve mankind and achieve its aspirations.

He said that the UAE government is working according to an integrated methodology to embody the visions and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote the global development process aimed at improving the lives of societies and peoples, and supporting the efforts of governments to participate in the development of the future.

He added that the forum comes within the initiatives of the World Summit of Governments that will continue throughout the year, to form a common and inclusive platform for governments and international organizations seeking to advance the sectors most related to human life, and reflects the UAE's commitment to building strong relations with the countries of the African continent and strengthening joint efforts to ensure a better future for future generations.

Al-Gergawi added that the UAE and African countries adopt a shared value system that focuses on persistence and faith in the future, praising the achievements made by the African countries over the past years, as a result of their efforts to empower their societies and develop integrated future plans based on investing in human energies.

He stressed that the challenges that the new Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic brings, imposes on everyone, states, international organizations, community institutions and individuals, the responsibility to strengthen partnerships and exchange experiences and successful practices to overcome the pandemic and overcome its challenges.

For his part, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning of Rwanda, Dr. Ozil Ndajijimana, praised the initiative of the World Summit of Governments to organize the Forum for the Future of Africa, noting that the current stage requires strengthening cooperation and partnerships aimed at creating the future.

The Minister of Planning and Economic Development of Sierra Leone, Dr. Francis Kaikai, said that the government of Sierra Leone believes in the importance of strengthening multiple partnerships in the face of global challenges, including the pandemic of the outbreak of the new Corona virus, the challenges of climate change and combating poverty, indicating that the Forum for the Future of Africa opens wider horizons for global dialogue And partnerships aimed at the benefit of societies.

Ohoud bint Khalfan Al-Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, Vice President of the World Government Summit, affirmed that the leadership of the UAE adopts enhancing the readiness of governments for future changes, consolidating partnerships and cooperation to achieve sustainable development, supporting international efforts to develop innovative solutions to challenges, and designing a system of opportunities that contribute to building better future.

She stated that the UAE is keen to form a model for constructive cooperation, through its partnerships with many international organizations in developing initiatives, launching reports and specialized studies, pointing to the launch of the “Future Opportunities 2020” report with the United Nations, which identified six sectors that supply the future economy with more than 30 A trillion dollars by 2025, which supports governments' efforts to develop future plans that focus on building sustainable societies.

The Minister of State for Food and Water Security, Maryam Bint Muhammad Saeed Hareb Al Muhairi, affirmed that Africa possesses high potentials that support the leadership of its governments in strengthening the global food security system, and that the UAE government believes in the need to develop the capabilities to enhance the active participation of various governments in the process of sustainable development.

She said that the Africa Future Forum provides a global dialogue platform to discuss innovative solutions and identify specific opportunities in the African continent, and ways to build on and strengthen them, especially in the face of the global health crisis, in order to ensure the empowerment of countries, enhance their resilience, and develop their food system to overcome this stage and build future food-safe societies.

For his part, Director of the United Nations Development Program, Achim Steiner, said that the organization of the "Forum for the Future of Africa" ​​is an ambitious step that supports the efforts of governments in building and development, as it provides a common platform that enhances global cooperation and contributes to helping countries make decisions and develop ambitious strategies that include Building a better future, smarter governments, and a more sustainable world.

The first session of the forum, which was organized under the title “Governmental directions to build the future of Africa in the post (Covid-19) phase,” discussed a set of future visions and the most important challenges and priorities in the next phase, and ways to enhance the flexibility of the work of future governments, and raise their ability to employ innovation and advanced technologies. To develop services that meet the needs of their communities.

The second dialogue session entitled "Enhancing readiness for unprecedented challenges", Minister of State for Food and Water Security, reviewed the most prominent future opportunities and challenges facing African countries to achieve the global sustainable development goals announced by the United Nations, the goals of the African Union agenda 2063, and the African development plan for the next 50 years. .

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Center for Government Innovation organized a dialogue session within the forum, which dealt with the most prominent global trends in the field of innovation, and the need to employ modern innovations in the development of government, educational and health services, in order to enhance the efforts of governments in designing the future of the world after "Covid-19".
