Neubrandenburg (dpa / mv) - The operation of the regional railway lines Mirow-Neustrelitz and Waren-Malchow will be taken over again by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania from the 2021/22 timetable change.

The Mecklenburg Lake District Council decided on Wednesday evening in Neubrandenburg to return operations on both routes to the state.

With the retransmission, the traffic is to be maintained at the current level at least until 2027.

The main reason for the return is that the district did not have enough financial resources to operate these routes.

Several years ago, the district took over the “sponsorship of local rail transport” for both sections in order to avoid a complete shutdown of train services.

The country wanted to cancel the trains "for cost reasons".

The Waren-Malchow section, as part of the former Südbahn, was taken over by the district in 2017, the Neustrelitz-Mirow section as early as 2012. Both routes are considered important for train travelers and tourists from Berlin to the Lake District and back.

Similar conditions apply to the Malchow-Karow-Parchim section, where the Ludwigslust-Parchim district secured seasonal operation at the time.
