UEFA said on Wednesday that Dutchman Danny Makkelie will lead the Champions League match between Paris SG and Basaksehir Istanbul which resumes at 6:55 p.m., after his hiatus on Tuesday on charges of racism against the fourth referee.

The body announced Tuesday that it was going to change arbitrators, an unprecedented decision, under the pressure of a growing controversy around those initially appointed.

The players decided to leave the pitch in the 14th minute, to protest against the words of Romanian fourth referee Sebastian Coltescu.

The latter designated with the term "negru" ("black" in Romanian ") the assistant coach of the Turkish club Pierre Achille Webo, with the main referee Ovidiu Hategan who, in the process, expelled the Cameroonian for protests .

After minutes of discussions between players and members of the management of the two clubs, it quickly became clear that the meeting could not resume without the replacement of Mr. Coltescu.

"You can not play with such a referee," said PSG star Kylian Mbappé to Mr. Hategan, in remarks captured by broadcaster RMC.

During the night, UEFA formalized the appointment of the experienced Mr. Makkelie, aged 37, who has 26 C1 matches on the clock, including that between PSG and RB Leipzig on November 24 (1-0 ).

He is assisted by the Dutch Mario Diks and the Polish Marcin Boniek.

Pole Bartosz Frankowski is the fourth referee.

Italians Marco di Bello and Maurizio Mariani remain as assistants to the video refereeing (VAR).
