09 December 2020 Stockholm's intensive care wards are 99% full.

The alarm was raised today by the health manager of the Swedish capital region, Bjorn Eriksson, in a press conference reported by local media.

At the moment there are 83 covid patients in intensive care who, together with other sick people, occupy almost all of the 160 places available.

"There are 814 people fighting for their lives in our hospitals - he said, referring to the totality of covid patients in the Stockholm area - we must say enough is enough. You cannot risk it for aperitifs, socializing outside the home, shopping for Christmas. The consequences they are terrible ".

As is well known, Sweden is one of the few countries that has never imposed a lockdown.

There are currently some restrictions across the country including a maximum limit of eight diners in bars and restaurants and a ban on the sale of alcohol after 10pm, while distance learning has been enforced for the last years of high school.

For all there is an exhortation to limit personal contacts outside the family as much as possible and to resort to smart working as much as possible.

The country, which has just over ten million inhabitants, publishes pandemic data only twice a week.

Yesterday there were 18,820 new infections and 133 deaths compared to Friday, for a total of 297,732 infections and 7,200 deaths.
