Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit with the US Supreme Court seeking to overturn presidential elections in four states.

We are talking about Michigan, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, where Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden received the majority of votes.

The document says that officials in the "respondent states", using the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse, "usurped the power of local legislatures and, in violation of constitutional norms, revised their state's voting laws."

"Changes to the legislation were introduced through directives of the executive branch and court decisions on claims brought by agreement of the parties, which leads to a decrease in the transparency of voting," the statement of claim states.

In addition, “the same officials flooded the respondent states with millions of ballots,” which were then “mailed or dropped into special ballot boxes practically without observing the regulations of supervision and control,” the plaintiff said.

According to the Texas authorities, their counterparts from the aforementioned four states weakened security measures designed to ensure the transparency of the vote and failed to comply with the legal requirements for verification of signatures on ballots.

This is especially true for newsletters sent by mail.

The lawsuit reiterates Donald Trump's thesis that absentee voting by mail provides opportunities for falsification.

Now these votes cannot be considered the basis for the distribution of electoral votes, the document says.

The Texas Attorney General refers to the current court proceedings, where "dozens of witnesses under oath" testified about cases where the Republican controllers were "physically interfered with (observe the voting. -

) and even expelled them from the premises."

"... When thousands of the same ballots were repeatedly registered, when thousands of new ballots mysteriously appeared late at night in the counting centers, when thousands of ballots were illegally dated to the past date, when signature verification procedures were ignored," the Texas Attorney General's Office gives examples of violations.

Ken Paxton asks the Supreme Court not only to overturn the results of the voting in four states, but also to postpone the date of the electoral vote.

It should take place on December 14th.

"Last attempts"

Experts in the United States are skeptical about the prospects for a lawsuit from the Attorney General of Texas in court.

“Here is my opinion in short: this is a press release issued for a lawsuit.

Texas does not have the right to make such demands, because it cannot influence how other states choose their electors, ”Rick Hasen, professor of law and political science at the University of California, wrote in his blog.

Experts interviewed by RT have a similar opinion.

Valery Garbuzov, director of the Institute for the United States and Canada, doubts the Supreme Court will uphold this claim.

“Almost all claims of the Trump team are rejected by the courts, as there is no evidence base.

These are just the last attempts of the Republicans to somehow unfold the situation before the meeting of electors, "the expert noted in a commentary on RT.

The expert recalled that the accusations of falsification made by Trump's supporters still need to be confirmed by facts.

“Just the words of witnesses that they saw or heard something are not enough.

This is not sewn to business.

Trump's position is filled with emotion and resentment.

But the court is considering the facts.

But they are not, ”the expert added.

According to the director of the Franklin Roosevelt Foundation for the Study of the United States at Moscow State University, Yuri Rogulev, the suit of the Texas prosecutor looks more like a political statement.

“The Supreme Court is unlikely to support him.

Moreover, it is not clear what the cancellation of the election results can lead to.

As for the arguments of the plaintiffs, violations have always been in the US elections.

They just turned a blind eye to them.

How conscious or massive they are is a question.

In general, the United States has a chaotic and archaic electoral system.

The current situation has shown this.

But there is no talk of canceling the election results, ”the expert explained in a comment to RT.

Note that on the eve of the US Supreme Court has already rejected another claim by the Republicans, who demanded to review the election results in Pennsylvania.

The lawsuit was filed earlier by a group of Republicans, including Congressman Michael Kelly.

They argued that about 2.5 million ballots sent by mail were allegedly incorrectly submitted and should not be counted when calculating the voting results.

The Supreme Court dismissed the claim without providing a detailed rationale for its decision.

However, Donald Trump does not intend to give up and continues to fight for a second presidential term.

The politician confirmed this the day before, speaking at an event dedicated to the coronavirus vaccine.

When asked why no one from Joe Biden's transition team was invited to participate, Trump replied that the election results had yet to be determined.

"Let's see whose next administration will be, because we won a victory in vacillating states ... I hope the next administration will be the Trump administration ... You can't just steal hundreds of thousands of votes," the head of the White House said.

Trump also offered to see if the legislature or the Supreme Court are brave enough to do what "everyone thinks is right."

Recall that shortly before the elections, the US Senate approved the candidacy of Amy Connie Barrett, nominated by Trump, for the post of judge of the Supreme Court.

52 senators voted for it, 48 against. The Democrats feared that in such a composition the Supreme Council would support the Republicans if they challenged the election results.

However, this did not happen in practice.

As Valery Garbuzov noted, the fact that six judges of the Supreme Court were appointed by the Republicans does not mean that the judges will behave like supporters of Trump.

“These judges are conservative, but this is not a guarantee that they will support Trump.

Not to mention that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court had disagreements with Trump from the very beginning, ”the expert explained.

Long-range tenacity

The US presidential election was held on November 3, but the vote count was delayed.

This year, due to the pandemic, many voters voted early or by mail.

On November 7, the media declared Democratic candidate Joe Biden the winner and was congratulated by many foreign leaders.

The winner will be officially determined after December 14, when the electors vote.

Donald Trump refused to recognize the preliminary election results and accused opponents of falsifying the vote count.

The Trump team is trying to defend its position in the courts, but so far to no avail.

At the end of November, Donald Trump recommended that the US General Services Administration begin the process of transferring power to Joe Biden's team.

In addition, the politician said that he would leave the White House if the electoral college votes for Biden.

However, Trump continues to insist that there was "massive fraud" during the election.

The current US president suspected even his own government - the Justice Department and the FBI - of being involved in the fraud.

He stated this in an interview with Fox News.

“I don’t know how the FBI and the Department of Justice are, I don’t know, maybe they are involved.

How did people get away with it? "

- Trump said.

We will remind, the head of the US Department of Justice William Barr said that the department did not reveal during the voting violations that could call into question the victory of Joe Biden.

In the event of his defeat in this election, Trump will still not abandon his attempts to return to power.

He is ready to run for president again in 2024.

According to Yuri Rogulev, Donald Trump refuses to admit his defeat now with an eye to the next elections.

“Trump is doing this for political reasons.

He wants to slam the door louder, declaring his undeserved suspension.

Now he is simply forming a platform and slogans for the next election campaign, ”concluded the expert.
