Aachen (dpa / lnw) - According to their own statements, customs have successfully struck a blow against organized illegal work in the demolition industry.

More than 500 forces from customs, police and tax investigators searched 49 residential and business premises on Tuesday, as the authority announced.

There have been nine arrests.

The location was primarily the Düren area, but also Aachen, Herzogenrath, Alsdorf and Kerkrade.

The background was investigations, according to which at least 25 suspects are said to be entangled in “a fraudulent company network” in the demolition industry.

Employees from Eastern Europe are said to have been recruited, paid with black money and deployed on construction sites in Germany.

The actual employment relationships were concealed in a network of bogus companies.

According to the first calculation, social security contributions of more than 2.7 million euros were embezzled and wage taxes of more than 600,000 euros evaded, according to customs.

The investigators see a 43 and 55 year old couple from Düren as the head of the group.

You and seven other suspects - a total of five German and four Romanian citizens - should be brought before the judge on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In addition to evidence, illegal weapons as well as forged passports and certificates were found during the searches, it said.
