Fashion icons in Japan can now protect the soul from the Corona virus with a kind of extravagance and luxury, through masks encrusted with diamonds and pearls, each costing one million yen ($ 9,600).

Mask.com, a chain of Cox's company, began selling handmade masks last week, aiming to cheer up Japanese and stimulate sales in the fashion industry, which has been depressed by the "Covid-19" pandemic.

The diamond muzzle is studded with a 0.7 carat diamond and over 300 Swarovski crystals, while the pearl mask is adorned with 330 Japanese Akoya pearls.

"Everyone's spirits are low because of Corona, and it is nice for them to feel a degree of joy when seeing one of these glittering masks," Azusa Kagitaka, who works in the company's store near Tokyo Station, told Reuters today, Wednesday.

"The jewelry and textile industry is also in recession due to the Corona virus, so we took this step as part of a project to help revive Japan," she added.

Cox, a subsidiary of Eon Retail Group, has opened Mask.com and 6 stores since September offering more than 200 types of masks, starting at 500 yen.
