In the dispute over the increase in the radio license fee in Saxony-Anhalt, after weeks of dispute, a solution is emerging.

WELT learned this from coalition circles.

The subject is currently being discussed in a cabinet meeting in the State Chancellery in Magdeburg.

The agreement between the CDU, SPD and the Greens therefore looks as follows: The coalition partners in the government again state that there is no majority in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt for an increase in the broadcast fee on January 1, 2021.

Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) is therefore withdrawing a corresponding proposal from the government.

As a result, there is no vote in the state parliament.

The feared joint rejection of the State Media Treaty by the CDU and AfD parliamentary groups is therefore canceled.

Both factions would have a majority in parliament compared to the factions of the SPD, Left and Greens who wanted to approve the State Treaty.

With this agreement, Prime Minister Haseloff would have saved his Kenya coalition.

However, the State Treaty would not come into force on January 1st because the approval from Saxony-Anhalt did not come into force.

The public broadcasters have announced a lawsuit in this case with the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe.

So far, 14 out of 16 state parliaments in Germany have approved the premium increase.
