The LR mayor of Aix-en-Provence Maryse Joissains was sentenced Monday on appeal to eight months suspended prison sentence and three years of ineligibility for illegal taking of interests and embezzlement, a sentence higher than that pronounced at first instance.

Following a decision of the Court of Cassation, the Montpellier Court of Appeal ruled only on the sentence of Maryse Joissains-Masini, the elected official having already been found guilty.

The mayor of Aix-en-Provence for 19 years will again appeal in cassation, announced to AFP his lawyer Mario-Pierre Stasi.

This appeal suspends the sentence.
