Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The picture of a girl in front of her grandmother's window has become the NRW press photo of the year in a competition held by the state parliament.

Lars Berg took the photo on behalf of the "Bild" newspaper in March in the Heinsberg district.

According to the state parliament, 107 photographers submitted a total of 446 images.

The places and categories are endowed with prize money of 22,000 euros.

All of the award-winning photos were taken between November 2019 and October 2020. A jury selected a photo by Kerstin Kokoska (“Funke Photos Services”) that shows a Friday sermon broadcast from a mosque on the Internet.

Third place was taken by a photo of Andreas Bretz ("Rheinische Post"), who was holding a meadow on the banks of the Rhine in Düsseldorf with spacing circles.

Bretz also received the special prize “Democracy on site” for his picture of the local elections in Düsseldorf, in which the defeated Lord Mayor Thomas Geisel (SPD) congratulates his challenger Stephan Keller (CDU) on his election victory.

Marcel Kusch received the young talent award.

He photographed a game with naked kickers for the German press agency during a protest against the commercialization of football.

30 further selected photos will be shown together with the five award-winning pictures in an exhibition in the state parliament.

You can see drive-in cinemas, empty stadiums, corona test stations - but also “Black Lives Matter” demonstrations or the closure of Karstadt-Kaufhof branches.

The exhibition can be seen in the citizens' hall of the state parliament until January 21, 2021, and the photos are also shown on the state parliament website.

State Parliament President André Kuper said on Monday: There is no home office for photojournalists.

They were on site and reported to us who stayed at home. "
