Munich (dpa / lby) - Taxpayers severely affected by the Corona crisis can apply to the tax office until the end of March under simplified conditions to defer their tax debt until the end of June.

The federal and state governments have now agreed on a gradual extension of the period originally running until the end of the year, as Bavaria's Finance Minister Albert Füracker (CSU) said on Monday.

The tax offices have so far approved 360,000 applications for tax relief.

The total is almost eight billion euros.

Follow-up deferrals could even be granted until the end of 2021 in a simplified procedure with installment payments. Interest would not be charged. "In addition, a general, one-month extension of the submission deadline for tax returns prepared by tax advisors for the 2019 calendar year was resolved," the Ministry of Finance announced in Munich. The Federal Ministry of Finance will publish the details in December.
