06 December 2020 In Pakistan a woman was killed because she allegedly refused a marriage proposal.

The Asianews agency reports.

To aggravate the situation, the fact that she was a Catholic and her murderer, the man who had proposed to marry her, was a Muslim.

Sonia, a 24-year-old Christian girl, was killed by Shahzad a young Muslim, with the sole reason that she refused to marry him.

The crime took place last November 30 and the killer is still on the loose.

Sonia was the daughter of Allah Rakha Masih, who moved to Rawalpindi for 13 years, together with her family, to work as a janitor in a government school.

Sonia's mother, Teresa, tells Asianews that her two daughters, Sonia and Nazish, 18, worked as maids to help the family.

Usually they always went out together to go to work.

On the morning of November 30, Sonia left her sister at the entrance to the Air Force Colony, their neighborhood, and headed for Behria Town, where she worked.

As she was crossing the highway, Shahzad approached her and shot her in the head.

The family, warned of the incident, took Sonia to the hospital, where the doctors could only declare her death.

Allah Rakha relates that Shahzad's family asked that Sonia marry Shahzad.

But they refused.

In addition, Allah Rakha explains, Sonia was a "true Christian" and would never agree to change her religion.

Shahzad is a photographer and has a shop in town.

He would follow and meet Sonia several times for at least 4-5 months, and he proposed continuously, but she always refused.

So he began to threaten her and eventually killed her.

On the same November 30, Allah Rakha denounced Shahzad and Faizan, a friend of his who allegedly helped the killer helped to escape by motorcycle.

On December 2, the police arrested Faizan, but Shahzad has not yet been found.
