The secretary general of the CFDT, Laurent Berger, ruled Sunday on BFMTV that the pension reform "is not affordable in terms of measures to be taken before 2022".

While the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire considered this reform a priority at the end of November, Laurent Berger believes that the government "would make a major mistake" in speaking about it.

The pension reform, deemed a priority on November 29 by the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire to repay the Covid debt, "is not affordable in terms of measures to be taken before 2022", Laurent Berger ruled on BFMTV Sunday.

"I say it and I repeat it, if in 2021, this government envisages an extension of the working hours for all the workers by playing on the age, the duration of contributions etc. it would make a major mistake" , hammered the secretary general of the CFDT.

The pension reform would be an inconsistency with the "whatever the cost" for Laurent Berger

"It is not at all a subject correlated to the public debt, the question of pensions is the social debt (...) it is linked to the fact that there was less income this year", he estimated.

"We cannot say 'whatever the cost' and then after 'the workers, you are going to have to work longer, that's what will solve the public deficit', no that's not true", a underlined Laurent Berger.

"If you want a society that is becoming hysterical and a feeling of deep injustice from the workers, you tell them next spring or next fall: because we have suffered the virus, we will have to work longer".

Laurent Berger spoke of "fairer taxation, a greater contribution from higher incomes" to repay the debt linked to the Covid.

"Today we have an unemployment which is exploding, young people entering the labor market who cannot find a job, and the subject would be to make those who are employed work longer? ( ...) Good luck explaining it! ", He exclaimed.

"This article 24 must be withdrawn"

Asked about the violence during the demonstration Saturday in Paris, he expressed his "unfailing condemnation" while fearing "that we are completely missing the plate of the subjects of concern to citizens" with the debate on article 24 of the "global security" law.

"Who had this idea of this article 24? Who would like to believe that the protection of civil servants in the exercise of their functions is contradictory with the freedom of the press?", He asks.

"We are creating artificial subjects. This article 24, we must withdraw it and deal with what is fundamental: the increase in poverty, the rise in unemployment, the social plans which are multiplying" he said. .
