Bayern have a new runner-up: Bayer Leverkusen rose to second in the German Championship after their 3-0 victory against Schalke 04 in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday.

After ten days, Leverkusen (22 pts) is replaced by a point from Bayern Munich (23 pts) who stumbled on Leipzig (3-3) on Saturday.

The RB (21 pts) was doubled by Bayer and slipped to third place.

Bayer completely dominated Schalke 04, last in the Bundesliga (3 pts), but had to rely on two corners to find the fault and make the break.

The young defender of the Gelsenkirchen team Malick Thiaw (19) opened the scoring against his side (10th) under pressure from his vis-à-vis Bayer Aleksandar Dragovic.

Then an uncrossed header from midfielder Julian Baumgartlinger, already scorer of the victorious goal against Nice on Thursday (3-2), allowed Peter Bosz's men to stand out (67th).

At the end of the match, summer rookie Patrick Schick swelled the score with his second league goal (78th).

Meanwhile, their goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky stopped a penalty shot softly by Steven Skrzybski (71st).

Despite the departure in the offseason of Kai Havertz and Kevin Volland, the second place where the Leverkusen players, deemed to be eternal seconds, confirmed the good pass from Bayer, who qualified for the round of 16 of the Europa League Thursday.

Earlier on Sunday, Stuttgart (8th, 14 pts) won 2-1 against Werder (12th, 11 pts) in Bremen.

At the end of this 10th day, Monday, Hoffenheim receives Augsburg.
