Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) retired in the 1st round of the F1 Sakhir Grand Prix on Sunday in Bahrain.

At turn 4, Leclerc, 4th on the grid, crashed into Racing Point of Mexican Sergio Pérez, 5th on the grid, and ended the nose in the safety barriers, like Verstappen, 3rd on the grid, who has nothing could do other than go out to avoid them.

Pérez, forced to return to the pits after this incident, left at the back of the peloton.

Second on the grid, the Briton George Russell, usually at Williams but who is playing his 1st GP with Mercedes replacing Lewis Hamilton, positive for Covid-19, took the best start on the Finnish poleman Valtteri Bottas.

Eighty-seven laps of the outer circuit of the Sakhir circuit, only 3.543 km long, are on the program for the 16th round of 17 this season.
